the reduced-dose data lands and maintenance suddenly has a channel worth reading
The maintenance channel had been the quietest room in the building since it opened in December. This fortnight it filled up, because a serious conversation about what happens when you stop or reduce finally had two trials to hang on rather than anecdote. It has never really gone quiet again, and eighteen months later it would be the busiest channel here.

What happened
- SURMOUNT-4 in JAMA 2024 was read closely alongside STEP 4 in JAMA 2021, and the pairing did more work than either paper alone.
- The regain in a withdrawal arm is not subtle, and members planning an exit were pointed at the data rather than reassured.
- Lower-frequency maintenance dosing was discussed honestly as something people here do with no trial behind it at all.
- Two members who had come off six months earlier posted where their weight actually went, which is the sort of data the room cannot get anywhere else.
- taper_tess started the practice of posting a monthly line rather than a single dramatic update, and several people copied it.
