About the Vial Room

The room started in September 2023 as a group chat between six people who were all trying to work out the same thing: how to reconstitute a vial without ruining it, and how to find out what was actually in it. It grew. By the end of 2024 it had a few thousand members and thirty-odd channels, and the thing that had once been a group chat had become a body of knowledge that only existed inside a scroll buffer.

So we published it. On 1 January 2024 the room voted to make its logs public from that day forward, and everything since has been written in the knowledge that it would be read by strangers. Everything before that date stays private, because that was the promise made when people joined.

What this archive is

It is 10,355 day logs across 35 channels, containing 276,988 messages from 382 members, plus 800 spun-off threads, 66 fortnightly digests and 86 topic indexes. Every message has a permanent link. Every timestamp is UTC.

It is not a forum. Nobody can post here. There are no accounts, no vote scores and no comment boxes, because a chat archive with a reply button would be a lie about what it is. If you want to read it, read it. If you want to find something specific, search — given what this site is, search is the front door, not a feature.

What the room is like

Technical, patient with beginners, impatient with unsourced claims, and much funnier than a transcript makes it look. There is a running joke about fridge thermometers that has outlived several members. The most repeated sentence in the entire archive is one unit is 0.01ml, and the second most repeated is swirl, do not shake.

The room's defining norm is that a claim about what is in a vial needs an independent test on a lot you bought yourself, with the lot number legible. Not a supplier certificate. Not a screenshot. Not a friend who said it was fine. That standard is written down in the rules and enforced in #vendor-verification, and it has held for three years including on the occasions when it was inconvenient.

What we do not do

• We sell nothing. Not products, not memberships, not advertising placements inside the logs. The sponsor units on this site are labelled as sponsors and sit outside the transcript.
• We are not affiliated with any manufacturer, pharmacy, laboratory, supplier or review service, and we accept no payment of any kind for verification or for a favourable entry in any log. That offer has been made. It is in the archive, with the sender redacted.
• We hold no money. No escrow, no group-buy banking, no brokering. A member who offers to do that is speaking only for themselves.
• We give no medical advice. Members describe what they did. Nobody prescribes. Where a symptom needs examining, the room says so and stops talking.
• We do not sell or trade the archive. Nor do we delete inconvenient parts of it — see the archive policy, including the count of redactions we have made.

Joining

There is no join button on this site, deliberately. The room is invite-driven and always has been, and publishing a signup form would change what it is. If you have found your way here you have almost certainly found your way to somebody who is in it.

Contact

Redaction requests, corrections and factual complaints go to the archivists at archive@vialroomarchive.com. Corrections to a fact — a trial year, a company name, a mis-transcribed number — are welcome and get made. Requests to remove an accurate record of what somebody said are handled under the archive policy, and mostly declined.
