july, and the gel packs arrive as water

Summer arrived and the cold-chain channel woke up. Four members posted parcels that had been sitting in delivery vans at thirty degrees, and the fortnight turned into a useful education about what actually needs protecting. Lyophilised powder is forgiving. Reconstituted solution is not. Almost everybody had those two facts the right way round by the end of it.

What happened

  • A gel pack arriving liquid tells you the parcel got warm and tells you very little about whether the powder inside is affected.
  • Reconstituted vials left in a hot car for an afternoon were treated as a real loss, and the channel did not pretend otherwise.
  • Zhuhai Kerui was noted for packing more insulation than the season required, which one member described as the only supplier decision that had ever made them feel looked after.
  • The fridge thermometer joke returned on schedule when two members discovered their fridge doors were sitting at eleven degrees.
  • Somebody suggested a cool box for the doorstep and the thread that followed produced a genuinely good list of things not to do.
