#reconstitution 2024-12-15

Highlights from this day
  • quiet.hours — 20mg in 2ml is 10mg/ml. 1mg is 10 units, 2mg is 20 units, easy, ill dig out the number 16:22
  • mg_per_ml — if i add 3ml to a 15mg vial what concentration am i actually at 17:35
  • mg_per_ml — took me a year to stop over-diluting. the measurement error at 4 units is worse than the convenience 17:52
  • mg_per_ml — quick one do not add more bac water to an already reconstituted vial, you have lost track of the concentration 18:12
  • quiet.hours — the jewellery scale is a good habit but calibrate it, they drift badly, from memory 19:44

if the maths gives you 13.7 units, change the volume. do not try to hit 13.7, take that with a pinch of salt

BN

anyone else find the 40mg vials harder to get fully dissolved than the small ones

QH

10mg in 1ml is 10mg/ml, so 2.5mg is 25 units. thats the one i use

QH

20mg in 2ml is 10mg/ml. 1mg is 10 units, 2mg is 20 units, easy, ill dig out the number

can i add more bac water later to a vial ive already reconstituted

BN

lyophilised powder is far more robust than people think. it is the solution that is fragile

MP

benzyl alcohol is what makes it bacteriostatic. it is about 0.9% typically, ill dig out the number

MP

it should be completely clear with no floaters. cloudy means stop

i swirl for about thirty seconds and then leave it. never had one fail to dissolve

it foamed. is it ruined

MP

unrelated but swirl it. do not shake it. the foam is denatured protein and you are not getting it back

if i add 3ml to a 15mg vial what concentration am i actually at

⚠️1

does temperature of the bac water matter at all

MP

quick one do not add more bac water to an already reconstituted vial, you have lost track of the concentration

BS

the vacuum will pull it in. let it. fighting it is how you get a face full of aerosol

dead space in a standard insulin syringe hub is small but it is not nothing over a month

MP

does benzyl alcohol matter if im finishing the vial in one go

MP

i have never once regretted using a rounder number and a slightly bigger volume

BN

does it matter if i inject the bac water straight at the powder

TT

pick the volume so your dose is a whole number of units. thats the entire trick

QH

i was wrong about this last year: it is fine to draw cold, it just stings more going in, we shall see

TT

aim the diluent at the glass wall, not at the powder. it goes in gentler

bacteriostatic water for anything multi-use. sterile water has no preservative in it at all

⚠️1❤️1

thats 5mg/ml

5mg in 2ml gives 2.5mg/ml, 0.25mg is 10 units. good for a starting dose

QH

unrelated but whats the smallest volume you would trust yourself to measure on a u100

my vial pulled the water in on its own, is that the vacuum or did i do something
