back of the fridge
#storage-coldchain 2026-03-19
does the fridge in a hotel room count as a fridge
freeze thaw cycling is the risk, not one freeze. that is my read of it anyway
follow up parcel sat in a hot mailbox for 4 hours, is it dead
[edited]how cold is too cold, can it actually freeze in a normal fridge
best travel setup for 8 days away with vials
i log the fridge temperature daily and the room has never let me forget it
hotel minibars are frequently not cold enough. i take a thermometer, which is ridiculous and also correct
i would bin it
| Condition | Lyophilised | Reconstituted |
|---|---|---|
| 2-8 °C | fine, long term | fine, weeks |
| Room temp, days | fine in every report here | reported fine, shorter |
| Room temp, weeks | reported fine | do not |
| Warm transit, 30 °C+ | no failure logged | one visible degradant peak |
| Frozen once | fine | contested, no consensus |
| Freeze-thaw cycled | fine | the room says no |
gel packs
how long is reconstituted actually good for at room temperature
mon 4.1 / door 7.2
tue 4.0 / door 7.8
wed 4.2 / door 6.9
thu 3.9 / door 7.4
fri 4.1 / door 8.1 <- shopping day
sat 4.3 / door 7.0
sun 4.0 / door 6.8update on the earlier thing what temperature does a domestic fridge door actually swing to
do i need to worry about light exposure or is that overthinking
follow up i have never had a lyophilised vial fail after a warm transit and i have had some bad ones
the vial that visibly changed after a warm transit was the one that had already been reconstituted
flying with vials, hand luggage or checked
reconstituted solution is the fragile part. that is where the cold chain actually earns its keep
