the practical risk in winter shipping is freezing, and in summer it is heat. plan for the season you are in

for flying, hand luggage every time. the hold is not temperature controlled the way people assume

unrelated but i freeze aliquots and have had them test fine afterwards. others here would not do it and i understand why
