Highlights from this day
  • orfor_watch — nobody here can tell you a vial is safe. we can tell you what has and has not survived for us 07:28
  • orfor_watch — is a five pound fridge thermometer actually worth it 08:26
  • cat_on_the_tray — unrelated but best travel setup for 21 days away with vials 10:18
  • orfor_watch — ok so parcel sat in a hot mailbox for 4 hours, is it dead 10:27

right so the vial that visibly changed after a warm transit was the one that had already been reconstituted

buy a thermometer. mine reads 5.6 on the door and two degrees lower at the back

the practical risk in winter shipping is freezing, and in summer it is heat. plan for the season you are in

is a five pound fridge thermometer actually worth it

my fridge is 6.2

SB

i left a reconstituted vial out overnight once, sent it for testing out of curiosity, it came back fine

update from 21 months ago: replaced the fridge, temperature is stable, no more anxiety

my fridge is running at 5.6, is that out of range

how cold is too cold, can it actually freeze in a normal fridge

right so light exposure matters much less than temperature for these. i still keep them in the carton

follow up i have never had a lyophilised vial fail after a warm transit and i have had some bad ones
