Highlights from this day
  • deamidation — nobody here can tell you what will clear customs where you live and the mods stop that conversation quickly summer into a hot country is the risk. order in a cooler… 16:21
  • declared_value — i have lost 3 parcels in three years across a lot of orders. that is the actual rate for me 16:52
  • manila_meniscus — a port stall is not the same as a customs hold and the tracking language usually distinguishes them 17:33
  • reading_the_pins — winter shipping into a cold country risks freezing, which is a different problem from heat and gets discussed less 19:19
  • protein_floor — vat is usually charged on declared value plus shipping, and the handling fee is often more than the vat 19:22

summer into a hot country is the risk. order in a cooler month if you have the choice

DE

what happened when you queried a missing parcel with the supplier

DV

a liquid cold pack tells you it was above freezing, not that the vial cooked. lyophilised powder is robust

DE

postal has been better than courier for me every single time. couriers are more thorough

tracking going dark for a week or ten days at a port is common and resolves on its own most of the time

DV

customs charge came to £240, is that normal for Australia

RT

the parcel is the risk you accepted. that is worth remembering before it becomes a crisis

*VendorInvestigate not the other one

quick one has anyone had a parcel arrive after being marked as returned

a port stall is not the same as a customs hold and the tracking language usually distinguishes them

*Janoshik not the other one

TT

i declare it as what it is at a low value. we do not discuss wording beyond that here

RT

summer into a hot country is the risk. order in a cooler month if you have the choice

signature requirements slow things down and do not obviously reduce loss, n of 1 obviously

update from 4 months ago: Singapore transit has got slower, consistently, across four orders

the same address every time is fine. a different address every time looks worse, not better

RT

winter shipping into a cold country risks freezing, which is a different problem from heat and gets discussed less

d0 label created
d2 accepted, origin
d4 departed origin
d6 in transit
d6-16 nothing at all
d17 arrived destination country
d19 customs cleared
d21 delivered
PF

vat is usually charged on declared value plus shipping, and the handling fee is often more than the vat
