Highlights from this day
  • wrong_network — weighing the vial before you reconstitute is the only way to catch an underfill 18:56
  • ari_arrives — if the maths gives you 13.7 units, change the volume. do not try to hit 13.7 19:52
  • taper_tess — i swirl for about thirty seconds and then leave it. never had one fail to dissolve 22:01

weighing the vial before you reconstitute is the only way to catch an underfill

U-100 syringe: 1 unit = 0.01 ml
  10u = 0.10 ml
  25u = 0.25 ml
  50u = 0.50 ml
 100u = 1.00 ml
mg drawn = ml drawn x mg/ml
MM

temperature of the diluent does not matter. how fast you push it in does

❤️83

took me a year to stop over-diluting. the measurement error at 4 units is worse than the convenience, ask me again in a month

dead space

SS

5mg in 2ml gives 2.5mg/ml, 0.25mg is 10 units. good for a starting dose

TT

slightly off topic but if you draw up with a bigger pin and inject with a fresh one you lose a bit more to dead space

foam is bad

my 10mg vial weighed 11.4g on the jewellery scale, is that wrong

anyone else find the 40mg vials harder to get fully dissolved than the small ones

[edited]

give it 9 minutes at room temperature before you decide it has not dissolved

i have never once regretted using a rounder number and a slightly bigger volume

how much do i lose to dead space with a 31G pin

MM

do i swirl for a specific length of time or just until its clear

ok so dead space in a standard insulin syringe hub is small but it is not nothing over a month

TT

i use bac water even for a single-use vial because it stings less, which is not the reason it exists

AA

while im here bac water or sterile water for something im going into weekly for 4 weeks

a slightly collapsed cake is cosmetic. a puddle in the bottom is not, ask me again in a month

MM

my rule is one concentration for everything so i never have to think about it at 7am
