LT

flat is the word i used too. not sad exactly, just less colour in things for a while
i told my family at month four rather than week one, and the timing is what made it go well

WT

we are a chat channel. good company, not clinicians, and it matters that we keep saying so, thats one data point

WT

nobody says you took the easy way about a blood pressure tablet, and i keep that sentence ready for when i need it

LT

ok so my mood dipped around week five and lifted by about week ten. i cannot tell you why either of those happened

i asked one relative to stop commenting. it was awkward for a week and it was worth it

the food noise going quiet is the thing people are least prepared for. i sat in the kitchen at 8pm not knowing what i was for, i have it written down somewhere

i told my family at month four rather than week one, and the timing is what made it go well, not advice obviously

SS

unrelated but the plateau nearly ended it for me. what got me through was logging something other than my weight

[edited]

somebody said the easy way thing to me and i just said it was not easy and changed the subject. it worked fine

SS

ok so the disorienting bit for me was realising how much of my day had been spent thinking about the next meal, we shall see

SS

unrelated but i cook more now than i used to, i just eat less of it, and that compromise saved that part of me

the shame eased when i stopped thinking of it as a shortcut and started thinking of it as treatment

same at week 5

LT

slightly off topic but the running out anxiety is real and worth naming. i keep a spare month in the fridge and i sleep better for it

LT

the identity part is the hardest thing about this and it gets talked about least, which is backwards

nobody in this room thinks less of you for needing a medication. genuinely nobody, someone check my working

please talk to somebody

LT

i measured my waist and my walking pace during the plateau because both were still moving when the scale wasnt

LT

you are not the only person in here who has felt that, and i say that as somebody who was certain they were

😂8🧊1🙏2
LT

feeling more emotional generally came up for me too and i took that to my gp rather than to a channel

SS

update from 20 months ago: the flatness lifted, slowly, and i did not have to change anything to make it
you are not the only person in here who has felt that, and i say that as somebody who was certain they were

SS

comments about my body were harder to take than any side effect and nobody warns you about it

CC

im at month 18 and doing well and feel strangely sad about it, is that a thing

SS

it is a loss as well as a relief and you are allowed to say both of those things

i built a whole personality around being the one who cooks and now i barely eat, does that pass

grieving food is real. it was my hobby, my comfort and about half of my social life, thats one data point

follow up has anyone found a way to celebrate that isnt about a number

SS

unrelated but i am kinder to myself now than i was when i was heavier, and that is not because of the number, from memory

AV

how do you handle a partner who is not pleased about you doing this
i told my family at month four rather than week one, and the timing is what made it go well

GV

somebody thanked me a year later for something i barely remember saying, and that is why i still read this every day

AV

my partner was not pleased at first and came round. what changed it was my blood pressure, not any argument i made, someone check my working
