#lab-requests 2026-03-17

Tuesday44 messages9 participantstimes are UTC
Highlights from this day
  • reta_resting_hr — two labs on the same lot is a luxury but it is how we learned what inter-lab variance looks like 12:54
  • karl_fischer — including a reference standard in the batch is the single best thing we ever added to this process 14:41
  • ms_ms_mira — submissions go out blinded. the lab gets a code, not a supplier name. that removes one variable, it is not distrust 15:17

label the syringe

UU

we have never had a lab mix up a sample. we have had members mix up their own labelling twice

UD

roughly one sample in 9 rounds has gone missing in transit. budget for it emotionally

GG

quick one a code and a lot number on the syringe in permanent marker. that is the whole labelling requirement
the queue is posted and updated. if your code is not on it, it did not arrive

FA

chain of custody in hobby testing is weak and we say so in every writeup, not advice obviously

FA

we do not help with wording beyond that and the mods are strict about it

declare it as an analytical reference sample with a low value. that is what it is, not advice obviously

coming back after 26 months, is the submission process the same

RR

two labs on the same lot is a luxury but it is how we learned what inter-lab variance looks like

add a standard

UU

we publish the raw report. summaries hide the thing you needed to see

coordinating this round

how do we stop the pool telling us about the pool instead of my vial

quantity is the test worth paying for. purity is usually fine and fill usually is not

update from 3 months ago: the blinding process is unchanged and it has held up fine

i keep half the sample back so there is something to send if the first one goes missing

including a reference standard in the batch is the single best thing we ever added to this process

SS

i coordinate the round, collect the codes, and post every result including the dull ones
roughly one sample in 8 rounds has gone missing in transit. budget for it emotionally

the split works from about 2 people. below that everyone pays more than the test is worth

a pooled result tells you about the pool. it does not tell you about your vial

whats the failure rate on samples actually arriving

UU

turnaround has been between 5 days and twice that depending on the queue, thats just me

we have never had a lab mix up a sample. we have had members mix up their own labelling twice
