#lab-requests 2025-12-11

Thursday24 messages7 participantstimes are UTC
Highlights from this day
  • first_and_last_four — a pooled result tells you about the pool. it does not tell you about your vial 15:26
  • chlorhex — a code and a lot number on the syringe in permanent marker. that is the whole labelling requirement 17:36
  • rotterdam_recon — sorry to jump in powder if you can. reconstituted travels worse and adds a variable we cannot control roughly one sample in 2 rounds has gone missing in transit.… 17:59
  • gall_bladder_gav — do not send your only vial. that has happened twice and both times it hurt 18:05

update from 15 months ago: the blinding process is unchanged and it has held up fine

in for one

keep half back

right so two labs on the same lot is a luxury but it is how we learned what inter-lab variance looks like

NW

including a reference standard in the batch is the single best thing we ever added to this process

NW

chain of custody in hobby testing is weak and we say so in every writeup

declare it as an analytical reference sample with a low value. that is what it is

send a capped syringe with enough for a rerun. the minimum is never enough if they need to repeat it

CH

a code and a lot number on the syringe in permanent marker. that is the whole labelling requirement

roughly one sample in 2 rounds has gone missing in transit. budget for it emotionally
