Thursday44 messages10 participantstimes are UTC
Highlights from this day
  • salt_bridge — what happens if a submission gets lost in transit 22:34
  • salt_bridge — do not send your only vial. that has happened twice and both times it hurt 22:38
  • thank_you_year_on — whats the failure rate on samples actually arriving 23:04
  • tam_logs — is it worth including a reference standard in the batch 23:18
  • LC_MS_Lena — update on the earlier thing powder if you can. reconstituted travels worse and adds a variable we cannot control 23:26
TL

what compound should we prioritise for the next round

submissions go out blinded. the lab gets a code, not a supplier name. that removes one variable, it is not distrust

in for one

i keep half the sample back so there is something to send if the first one goes missing

roughly one sample in 4 rounds has gone missing in transit. budget for it emotionally

AN

the split works from about 9 people. below that everyone pays more than the test is worth

right so Janoshik has been the fastest for us. Janoshik has been the most detailed. those are not the same lab

do not send your only vial. that has happened twice and both times it hurt

send a capped syringe with enough for a rerun. the minimum is never enough if they need to repeat it

EE

do you want the vial reconstituted or as powder
chain of custody in hobby testing is weak and we say so in every writeup

EE

a pooled result tells you about the pool. it does not tell you about your vial

keep half back

VI

how do we stop the pool telling us about the pool instead of my vial

[edited]

coming back to this if you want to know about your vial, you have to submit your vial. that is the whole answer

TL

turnaround has been between 22 days and twice that depending on the queue

EE

we do not help with wording beyond that and the mods are strict about it

whats the failure rate on samples actually arriving

TL

quantity is the test worth paying for. purity is usually fine and fill usually is not

coming back to this how many people do we need before the split is worth it

whats the split

send powder

LM

the queue is posted and updated. if your code is not on it, it did not arrive
we publish the raw report. summaries hide the thing you needed to see

update on the earlier thing powder if you can. reconstituted travels worse and adds a variable we cannot control

publish the raw

blinded obviously

EE

including a reference standard in the batch is the single best thing we ever added to this process, take that with a pinch of salt
