update on the earlier thing do not reuse pins. it is not about sterility so much as the tip being blunt after one pass
#injection-technique 2026-06-11
while im here i inject the back of my own arm and it is awkward but doable with a mirror
i changed nothing except letting the swab dry and the stinging stopped completely
31G 8mm
i keep the sharps bin next to the fridge so the whole thing happens in one place, ill dig out the number
absorption differences between subcutaneous sites are small for a weekly compound
warming the vial in your hand for a minute is the cheapest comfort improvement there is
a fresh pin for the injection hurts less. whether thats worth the extra dead space is your call
pinch, 45 degrees, count to five, withdraw slowly. two years and almost no bruising
30G in 8mm or 12.7mm for abdomen
let the alcohol dry. that is ninety percent of "my injections sting"
cold from the fridge genuinely stings more. i let it sit out for ten minutes
rotate
whats your sharps disposal setup, mine is a jar and i know thats wrong
is 31G noticeably better than 29G or is it marginal
do not aspirate for a subcutaneous injection, there is nothing to aspirate for
push slowly. fast is what causes the ache afterwards
bleeding a little means you nicked a small vessel. it is not a technique failure, ymmv
thats normal
is there any reason to warm the vial in your hand first
thats a reaction
a small air bubble subcutaneously is not dangerous. it costs you dose accuracy, thats the reason to clear it
do not aspirate for a subcutaneous injection, there is nothing to aspirate for, ask me again in a month
unrelated but if you are getting a lot of bruising, look at how fast you are pushing before you blame the needle
how do you avoid hitting the same spot twice when the marks fade
mark it down
welts at the site are usually a mild local reaction and rotation sorts it
[edited]i bled a bit, is that a needle depth thing
does the injection site matter for how quickly it hits
31G 8mm for everything. i tried the 12.7mm once and never went back
sorry to jump in do you count to five before withdrawing
