i keep getting a small welt at the site, technique or reaction
#injection-technique 2026-01-14
coming back after 2 months, has the pinned technique guide changed
push slowly. fast is what causes the ache afterwards
do you aspirate, or is that only an intramuscular thing
nobody here should be telling you where to inject. we can tell you what we do
the difference between 29G and 31G is real but small. the difference between wet and dry alcohol is not small
dont recap
small bubble is fine
mark it down
i mark the rotation in a notes app because the marks fade and i lost track twice
cold from the fridge genuinely stings more. i let it sit out for ten minutes, someone check my working
update from 24 months ago: switched to a fixed rotation and the site reactions stopped
how do you avoid hitting the same spot twice when the marks fade
welts at the site are usually a mild local reaction and rotation sorts it
technique probably
i inject the back of my own arm and it is awkward but doable with a mirror
[edited]90 degrees works fine if you have the tissue for it. 45 if you do not
31G 8mm for everything. i tried the 12.7mm once and never went back, take that with a pinch of salt
do you change the pin between drawing up and injecting
is a small air bubble in the barrel a problem subcutaneously
anyone got a rotation map they would share
does injecting a cold vial hurt more or am i imagining it
the needle went in fine but it stung going in, alcohol or the compound
is 31G noticeably better than 29G or is it marginal
whats your sharps disposal setup, mine is a jar and i know thats wrong
pinch, 45 degrees, count to five, withdraw slowly. two years and almost no bruising
45 degrees
do you use the insulin syringe for both drawing and injecting
never recap a used pin. that is how people stick themselves
push slow
warming the vial in your hand for a minute is the cheapest comfort improvement there is
a fresh pin for the injection hurts less. whether thats worth the extra dead space is your call
absorption differences between subcutaneous sites are small for a weekly compound
abdomen two inches out from the navel, avoiding anything that has been injected in the last month, happy to be corrected
sharps bin
try the thigh
do not reuse pins. it is not about sterility so much as the tip being blunt after one pass
let the alcohol dry. that is ninety percent of "my injections sting"
rotate
not a problem
do not aspirate for a subcutaneous injection, there is nothing to aspirate for, from memory
anyone inject in the back of the arm on their own successfully
right so do you pinch or stretch
how slowly should you actually push
a small air bubble subcutaneously is not dangerous. it costs you dose accuracy, thats the reason to clear it, still working it out
