Highlights from this day
  • verify_or_dont — 31G 8mm for everything. i tried the 12.7mm once and never went back 14:46
  • aliquot_ada — do not aspirate for a subcutaneous injection, there is nothing to aspirate for 15:56
  • two_ml_two — a proper sharps bin costs almost nothing and pharmacies will take it back absorption differences between subcutaneous sites are small for a weekly compound 16:32
  • two_ml_two — right so 90 degrees works fine if you have the tissue for it. 45 if you do not 31G 8mm for everything. i tried the 12.7mm once and never went back 16:50
  • mg_per_ml — slightly off topic but a fresh pin for the injection hurts less. whether thats worth the extra dead space is your call, for what its worth 20:05

do you change the pin between drawing up and injecting

a small air bubble subcutaneously is not dangerous. it costs you dose accuracy, thats the reason to clear it

TM

i keep getting a small welt at the site, technique or reaction

TM

drawing up with the same pin you inject with is fine, it just dulls the tip slightly

i inject the back of my own arm and it is awkward but doable with a mirror

MP

absorption differences between subcutaneous sites are small for a weekly compound

VO

update on the earlier thing does injecting a cold vial hurt more or am i imagining it

😂1

i bled a bit, is that a needle depth thing

MP

if you are getting a lot of bruising, look at how fast you are pushing before you blame the needle

AA

do not aspirate for a subcutaneous injection, there is nothing to aspirate for

45 degrees

right so welts at the site are usually a mild local reaction and rotation sorts it

coming back to this do not reuse pins. it is not about sterility so much as the tip being blunt after one pass

bleeding a little means you nicked a small vessel. it is not a technique failure

AA

coming back to this i mark the rotation in a notes app because the marks fade and i lost track twice

TM

update from 23 months ago: switched to a fixed rotation and the site reactions stopped

i keep the sharps bin next to the fridge so the whole thing happens in one place, someone check my working

AA

warming the vial in your hand for a minute is the cheapest comfort improvement there is

TM

do you use the insulin syringe for both drawing and injecting

EE

nobody here should be telling you where to inject. we can tell you what we do

MP

slightly off topic but a fresh pin for the injection hurts less. whether thats worth the extra dead space is your call, for what its worth

cold from the fridge genuinely stings more. i let it sit out for ten minutes

⚠️1

mark it down

warm it first
