Highlights from this day
  • chaser_chris — do not aspirate for a subcutaneous injection, there is nothing to aspirate for absorption differences between subcutaneous sites are small for a weekly compound 22:41
  • peak_split — nobody here should be telling you where to inject. we can tell you what we do 23:28
  • ms_ms_mira — whats your sharps disposal setup, mine is a jar and i know thats wrong 23:41
  • ms_ms_mira — small bubble is fine 90 degrees works fine if you have the tissue for it. 45 if you do not 23:58

i inject the back of my own arm and it is awkward but doable with a mirror

quick one a proper sharps bin costs almost nothing and pharmacies will take it back

[edited]

a small air bubble subcutaneously is not dangerous. it costs you dose accuracy, thats the reason to clear it, not advice obviously

rotate

do not reuse pins. it is not about sterility so much as the tip being blunt after one pass

PS

update from 10 months ago: switched to a fixed rotation and the site reactions stopped

CC

do not aspirate for a subcutaneous injection, there is nothing to aspirate for

MM

i have eight sites and an eight week rotation. it is written on the fridge, ask me again in a month

90 degrees works fine if you have the tissue for it. 45 if you do not

MM

coming back after 17 months, has the pinned technique guide changed

not a problem

CO

i mark the rotation in a notes app because the marks fade and i lost track twice

PS

sorry to jump in is a small air bubble in the barrel a problem subcutaneously

🧪1

a fresh pin for the injection hurts less. whether thats worth the extra dead space is your call

PP

welts at the site are usually a mild local reaction and rotation sorts it, i think

bleeding a little means you nicked a small vessel. it is not a technique failure

thigh or abdomen, does absorption actually differ

NT

31G 8mm for everything. i tried the 12.7mm once and never went back

the difference between 29G and 31G is real but small. the difference between wet and dry alcohol is not small, for what its worth

NT

abdomen two inches out from the navel, avoiding anything that has been injected in the last month

i changed nothing except letting the swab dry and the stinging stopped completely

PS

push slowly. fast is what causes the ache afterwards

📉13

let it dry

PS

does injecting a cold vial hurt more or am i imagining it

nobody here should be telling you where to inject. we can tell you what we do

RS

warming the vial in your hand for a minute is the cheapest comfort improvement there is

MM

if you are getting a lot of bruising, look at how fast you are pushing before you blame the needle

MM

whats your sharps disposal setup, mine is a jar and i know thats wrong

📉8🧪75

mark it down

MM

pinch, 45 degrees, count to five, withdraw slowly. two years and almost no bruising, take that with a pinch of salt
