Highlights from this day
  • one_variable — warming the vial in your hand for a minute is the cheapest comfort improvement there is, not advice obviously 13:53
  • gip_glp_gil — 90 degrees works fine if you have the tissue for it. 45 if you do not 14:21
  • sgp_subq — quick one do not aspirate for a subcutaneous injection, there is nothing to aspirate for 17:03
  • early_satiety — cold from the fridge genuinely stings more. i let it sit out for ten minutes 20:24
WV

i inject the back of my own arm and it is awkward but doable with a mirror

WV

ok so pinch, 45 degrees, count to five, withdraw slowly. two years and almost no bruising

OV

whats your sharps disposal setup, mine is a jar and i know thats wrong

warm it first

if you are getting a lot of bruising, look at how fast you are pushing before you blame the needle

do you change the pin between drawing up and injecting

a fresh pin for the injection hurts less. whether thats worth the extra dead space is your call

GG

90 degrees works fine if you have the tissue for it. 45 if you do not

ES

slightly off topic but absorption differences between subcutaneous sites are small for a weekly compound

WV

how do you avoid hitting the same spot twice when the marks fade

dont recap

ES

update from 5 months ago: switched to a fixed rotation and the site reactions stopped

GG

a small air bubble subcutaneously is not dangerous. it costs you dose accuracy, thats the reason to clear it, ymmv

i mark the rotation in a notes app because the marks fade and i lost track twice

slightly off topic but coming back after 3 months, has the pinned technique guide changed

how many sites are in your rotation

mark it down

i have eight sites and an eight week rotation. it is written on the fridge

GG

i changed nothing except letting the swab dry and the stinging stopped completely

SS

31G 8mm for everything. i tried the 12.7mm once and never went back, not advice obviously

SS

quick one do not aspirate for a subcutaneous injection, there is nothing to aspirate for

wk1 L abdo upper wk5 L thigh outer
wk2 R abdo upper wk6 R thigh outer
wk3 L abdo lower wk7 L arm back
wk4 R abdo lower wk8 R arm back
SS

bleeding a little means you nicked a small vessel. it is not a technique failure

not a problem

GG

sorry to jump in is 31G noticeably better than 29G or is it marginal

ES

abdomen two inches out from the navel, avoiding anything that has been injected in the last month

SS

update on the earlier thing i keep the sharps bin next to the fridge so the whole thing happens in one place

ES

cold from the fridge genuinely stings more. i let it sit out for ten minutes
